Horizon Chase 2 is the sequel to the retro racer Horizon Chase Turbo. It's an arcade racing game that was developed aiming to be the most accessible and fastest racer possible!

My main responsibilities as a Game Designer:

  • One of the responsible for the concept, system design, implementation and support to the other disciplines for the delivery of new features and mechanics.

  • One of the responsible for the concept, design and implementation of part of the game’s live content (races, player activities and rewards).

My contribution

I joined the team later into the development cycle, when the game's core was already built. As I joined, my mission was to help polish the existing systems and finish some of the other gamemodes that were planned to be added to the game.

My main contribution was the Time Trials gamemode, which was built to take the place of the Break the Boxes mode. The overall direction and functionality of the Time Trials mode was set, but I designed all of the possible interactions, edge cases, guidelines and, along with the UXI team, defined the menu interactions and information distribution. After that, level designers built based on the guidelines defined, all of the new challenges with this new mode.

Time Trials is one of the main gamemodes available during the World Tour

I've also widely helped design, support the implementation and configure the improved version of the Playgrounds, which is the live operable feature of the game. Along with that, I've built various live operable challenges that were used within the Playgrounds feature - where players need to complete specific tasks during a race to earn experience and unlock exclusive cosmetics.

Aside from that, I've designed along with the art and UIX teams, a handful of other features that were cut due to lack of time for implementation.
